In Ifigenia’s work, the traditional technique of embroidery is highlighted in a modern visual medium. Art Historian Yiannis Bolis notes: “Her compositions refer to medieval tapestries and illustrated manuscripts-codes with their pervasive mystical atmosphere, aesthetics and strongly decorative character. These are compositions that stand out for their design values and painterly qualities, the extraordinary subtlety of color tones and the precision of details, the distinct sensitivity and poetry of the rendering of the subjects, the mastery of the technique and the texture of their material. Images – pre-eternal and timeless symbols that cross eras and cultures – appear on the white surfaces of the fabrics to “tell” original stories through unexpected encounters and combinations.
