The artist, who has been living in Kythira these past years, an ideal destination for Western Art, ranging from the Renaissance to the present day, is influenced by Myths, (i.e Journey to Kythira), creating landscapes that seek to carry the invitation of the journey. Exoticism is found in expectation, and in the landscapes, which describe departure or long distance views of the expected location. The horizon, the references to the close and the faraway, the hint, the description, or the memory, do not depict-illustrate but serve differently each time, the artist’s goal. The works that are presented here belong to a larger ensemble, evolving and changing over time.

The works that have been made on the other side of the Aegean, in Kythira, deal with the character of the time and place of the islands, which is similar throughout the Greek Archipelago. The colors and the design refer to the images and the emotions that we have all felt in a similar environment, while the time that is experienced in a different rhythm influences the way everything is captured by the painter.
Manolis Haros was born in Kythira in 1960. He studied engraving and painting in Paris at the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux Arts (1978) where he received his diploma with honors. In 1982 he did his postgraduate studies at the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Arts Decoratifs on image communication. In 1984 he was honored with the French National Prize des Prondations in the field of lithography and the French state bought his works. In 1991 he traveled to the USA where Absolut vodka uses his work for its advertising campaign. In 1993 he designed with M. Zacharioudakis for the National Gallery. In 1996 he designs the paper campaign of the Hellenic National Book Center. In 1998 he was awarded the Athens Academy Award for painter under 40, while in 2000-2001 he worked as a Visiting Artist at Princeton University in the USA.
